Founding Engineer at Backdoor (backdoorai.app). Backdoor is an AI career agent that helps people get startup jobs, entirely over iMessage and WhatsApp: it learns your background, researches high-fit startups, drafts founder outreach and follows up. For startups, we run a voice-screening agent: candidates apply through a link, take a 15-minute AI interview, and are scored against a role rubric the founder reads. Two founders, small in-person team in Bangalore. You would be one of the first engineers and own large parts of the system end to end. What you will own: the interaction agent (Mastra, tool calling, cross-turn history, reply quality gates, model routing); durable background jobs on self-hosted Inngest (profile research, lead batches, outreach with real email threading); the iMessage and WhatsApp transports, where delivery semantics and rate limits are the real problem; the real-time voice interviewer (Deepgram speech-to-text, streaming LLM turns, ElevenLabs speech) and the evaluator behind it; and the eval harness that replays real conversations through the production pipeline on every PR. TypeScript end to end: Next.js, Bun, Prisma on Postgres, Vercel, one Azure VM. Who this is for: you have shipped a product to real users end to end, ideally with an LLM in the loop, and can explain what broke in production and how you found it. You think about agents as systems (state, tools, retries, cost, latency), not prompts. You would rather add an eval than argue about a prompt. 1 to 4 years typical; side projects with real users count fully. No specific framework or degree required. Location: Bangalore, in person.
