Data Science Engineer at a stealth-mode, established consumer internet company in Mumbai. The company name is shared with candidates after the screen. The business runs a large tele-sales and customer-service floor, thousands of calls and chats a month in English, Hindi and Hinglish, selling a premium consumer product where human reps and recommendation models decide outcomes together. The role: build the AI copilots that sit with the sales and service floor in real time (next-best-action, live objection handling, in-call knowledge retrieval, post-call summaries and CRM updates) and the conversation intelligence under them (transcription, diarisation, intent and sentiment, call-quality scoring on Indian languages). Ship RAG and agent workflows with evals, guardrails and human review from day one, drive adoption on the floor, and move conversion, handling time, ramp-up time and CSAT. Own the recommendation, lead-scoring and propensity models behind the product and close the loop between what a rep learns on a call and the next recommendation. Set the AI roadmap and build the data-science team. Personal customer data and recorded calls are involved, so PII redaction, consent and DPDP compliance are part of the job. Must-haves: 7-10 years in data science, ML or AI, including leading or mentoring a team. Shipped an AI copilot or agent-assist system for a tele-sales, inside-sales or customer-service team in production, and able to walk through the architecture, the evaluation approach and the business metrics it moved. Hands-on LLM application engineering: RAG, fine-tuning, tool calling, agent orchestration, guardrails. LLM evaluation as a discipline: golden datasets, offline and online evals, A/B tests, human review, production monitoring. Strong Python and SQL, PyTorch or TensorFlow, at least one cloud AI platform. Can turn a model into a P&L conversation and spend real time on the sales floor. Good to have: speech AI on Indian languages, contact-centre and CRM stacks, consumer-scale recommender systems, MLOps. Offer: ₹80 LPA. Mumbai, in person, permanent.
